Eighteen 6th year Art students went on a field trip in October to visit Newgrange, The National Museum and The Hugh Lane Gallery. During the trip the students had the opportunity to see a broad selection of artifacts and artwork that they have been studying as part of their Appreciation of Art course. It was great to see their excitement and wonder when seeing these things in real life for the first time.
Amongst other things, they had the opportunity to explore all of the contemporary installations in the Hugh Lane Gallery, glimpse the golden treasures and bog bodies from the Bronze and Iron age in NMI, enter the over 5000 year old sacred chamber at Newgrange and experience a simulation of the light of the WInter Solstice entering the passage.
