At a ceremony in the County Hall on Thursday 20th November Coláiste Choilm\Gaelcholáiste Choilm was awarded the Excellence in Education Award for use of Information Technology in the school environment in administration, communication and all facets of teaching and learning. Endeavours and initiatives have included-

  •  the pioneering roll-out of iPads to facilitate individual and collaborative learning
  • the use of Edmodo as a schoolwide Virtual Learning Environment for students and teachers
  • the development of computers as a subject to integrate IT skills across the curriculum
  • curriculur innovation such as a coding module, web design module and digital journalism in Transition Year
  • promotion of E-Safety and anti-bullying supported by guest speakers, sponsored programmes  and integration with SPHE and other subjects
  • developing communication through the use of the school website, twitter , parental texting and Google Apps for Education
  • use of software packages in Administration for timetabling, finance, attendance and substitution for a school of 1380 students and 130 staff
  • improving infrastructure by providing laptops for LCA students, having schoolwide WiFi and 100MB broadband
  • developing facilities to include two computer labs, a music technology room, a language lab and a fully equipped Design and Communication Graphics room.
  • equipping each classroom with a laptop, internet access, a visualiser and an interactive  digital projector
  • the provision of ongoing inhouse  training in the varioius areas mentioned above
  • establishing a digital library of e-books for both classroom use and recreational reading
