There are changes to school transport eligibility which came into effect from the commencement of this current school year.

These changes mean that from this school year onwards, children are eligible for transport where they reside not less than 4.8 kms from and are attending their nearest post primary school/education centre as determined by the Department/Bus Éireann, having regard to ethos and language.
(Please read further below)

In selecting a post primary school for their children, it is important that parents be made aware of eligibility criteria for school transport provision because for the next three or four school years children in the same family or area may be eligible for transport to different schools. In this regard it would be appreciated if the enclosed Question and Answer Sheet could be brought to parents’ attention at your open/enrolment night.

Ultimately, the changes mean that eligibility for school transport will be easier to determine and the scheme will be simpler and more transparent for families and schools.

Application Forms are available online at and must be submitted before the last Friday in April (26th April 2013).

Full details of the Post Primary School Transport Scheme are available on the Department’s website at .
