Rang Eimear travelled to Dublin on a history tour on September 28 th to visit sites
synonymous with the 1916 Rising and the decade of commemorations. Pupils visited
Kilmainham Gaol where they saw the cells of the Rising leaders, & the Stonebreakers yard
where the rebels were executed. The class also viewed Bully’s Acre where the patriot
Robert Emmet was buried before his body was snatched in the night by his followers. The
day also included a tour of Kilmainham hospital modelled on Les Invalides, Paris. Finally
we walked past the Croppy Acre, a burial ground of the 1798 rebellion on our way to
Arbour Hill Cemetery where the rebel leaders were interned and under the 1916
Proclamation we poised for a group photo. All pupils enjoyed the experience and as a
teacher may I add the pupils were a model of behaviour and a credit to the Rebel county
as we traversed from site to site.
